Augusta ancient site; One of the hidden treasures in Clicia

Turkish landscape has a lot of archeaological treasures in its territory. Unfortunately some of them aren’t lucky. Due to the dams, some of them remained under the water. Augusta ancient site which is located in Adana province of Turkiye was one of the best known ancient sites due to the historical records.

This ancient site was unearthed in 1950’s and then Seyhan Dam construction started. So the archeaologists had a short time to save the ancient site. Finally the dam lake was filled thus the ancient site remained under the water. The remains of ancient site got out because of the drought. It was built by the Roman Emperor Tiberius. According to the historical records, the ancient site was recorded till 8th century AD.
