The Charms of Constantinople 1; The column of Constantinople

Constantinople had a lot of monuments. Also it is believed that they have mysterious functions such as to protect the city from various disasters. Even today we have the same belief. Most of them are still standing in modern Istanbul. Column of Constantinople was one of them.

It was erected in 330 AD by Constantine I. There used to be a statue of Constantine I in original form of the momument. It is the combination of paganism and Christianity beliefs. It was believed that this monument was the guardian of dynasty from the disasters and sickness’. Up to the rumour, there is a room under the momument to protect holy items of Christianity. Unfortunately no positive evidences were found by the result of scientific works.
