Mustafa Kemal was born and grew up in Thessaloniki (Today’s Greek city). He experienced the nationalism in Europe. Nationalism was very powerful in Balkans after 19th century. That’s why Ottoman Empire lost the Balkan region.
On the other hand, Ottoman Empire was losing power and domination in that period. It means that Ottoman Empire couldn’t manage to survive for a long time. The only way was to establish a new Turkish state based on nationalism. One-man or a family ruling system wasn’t valid for a modern world. The empires were collapsed in the world including Russian Empire. The age of empires had already been finished in that era. It was very easy to soften the regime and to impose on the nations, and it wasn’t suitable for the benefits of the public. This principle is also valid for today’s world. Democracy and public domination are the best way to develop a country.
He also believed in reforming the state. That’s why he planned social, economic and cultural reforms to develop Turkish nation. Firstly, education is the basic area to be developed. Then factories are very essential for economic development. Having a good position in the world depends on cultural and economic development. That’s why he planned to establish a new Turkish state based on nationalism.

Some people maybe will see this picture first time. This is the photo that was taken when Turkish Public Parliament in Ankara on 23rd April 1920. He isn’t alone, the deputies and colleagues are behind him. None of them seem nervous, they are on the same line with him. They did respect and trust him even though they didn’t have the same vision with him.
Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk after 1934) always relied on the power of the public. He had never moved alone, he was always with his colleagues and his nation. He knows that a dictator can be powerful, but he can’t be respected by the nation. His nation is always more important than everything for him. He never made decisions without consulting parliament and his colleagues.
He is the man of the nation. He is the man of the freedom. He is the guide of the free and peaceful world.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk planned to develop modern Turkish Republic in his every sector. Agriculture was the major sector in those years. On the other hand, the methods were old- fashioned that’s why it should have been modernized. Within this goal, he ordered to have a farm established. A farm was established in the middle of Ankara (the capital of TR). His goals were to make applications and to develop agricultural production. He also stated that his plan was to spend time in a farm after his retirement. But he couldn’t achieve his goal. He couldn’t see this farm as he passed away in 1938. It is known as Ataturk Forest Ranch today.
Nowadays Ataturk Forest Ranch is in agenda because of different reasons. It was a huge area, and it was capable of producing everything that Turkish Republic needed. A presidential palace and an embassy were built on it. This area has been used out of its main function for years. It was Ataturk’s legacy and he left it to Turkish public as a facility for agriculture.

The main principle to rule the state is to differ religion and policy. Otherwise, a group or traitors can take over the state management. Also, there can’t be any freedom for the state and individuals. Religion should be between the individual and the God. Briefly, it should be out of official policy. The developed countries are based on secularism.
2. Revolutionism:
The world changes in every age. We have to follow the daily developments and do the necessary works to adopt the civilization. Revolutions support development and freedom.
3. Nationalism:
Nationalism is the key principle for the freedom. Every nation has right to rule themselves and to decide their destiny. Every nation has right to protect their culture and national identity.
4. Republicanism:
To protect the Turkish Republic is one of the main tasks. Turkish Republic is the only state model. Republic means equality and development. Democracy is the only way to develop a state.
5. Populism:
Public is the basic element of the nation. Everything should serve the benefit the public. A stateman should take the populism as priority. That stateman shouldn’t lie to the public.
6. Statism:
State is the biggest structure in order to form a civilized nation. Statism represents social equity and development. To protect the Turkish state is one of the necessary tasks.
Also, the guidance of science and logic shouldn’t be forgotten.
Those principles can be also oriented to other nations….
We all know how important the freedom is. Freedom is the most necessary principle for the individuals and the state. If a nation doesn’t have freedom, it isn’t possible to develop in the world. Atatürk was aware of this fact. That’s why, […]
We all know how important the freedom is. Freedom is the most necessary principle for the individuals and the state. If a nation doesn’t have freedom, it isn’t possible to develop in the world.
Atatürk was aware of this fact. That’s why, he planned to establish a new free Turkish state. Also, thanks to his principles, he guided to other nations for the freedom. His nationalist movement leads to the nations that are under the developed countries.
He is the only leader that can guide the world to the freedom….

He has a statement: Independency and freedom are my characteristic features. He always defended freedom and independency in his entire life as usual (We, Turks, all want to live free in the history also today). He is aware that independency in every branch will provide development and improvement. It is obvious that we will face difficulties and obstacles in this path. But there is no way to quit for this task.
Freedom and independency are related terms because if you are free in every branch including science and policy. you are capable of deciding on your own life. He always knows that Turks are the people who can live free. It is in our genes.

I always state that Mustafa Kemal is a wise stateman and soldier. It isn’t only for his triumphs and also his path to the top of the civilization. We can list a few leaders (it is still valid) that can match this feature. There are some features and reasons for this statement. Qualification is one of the features of this situation
Mustafa Kemal is a leader that cares about qualification. If someone is qualified for a task, that person will take over the responsibility, even though they might not be at the same side. For example, some of his colleagues didn’t have the same opinion about some works but they were the best in their own tasks. The differences can be balanced in a good mind and leadership. At every step, Mustafa Kemal was in the middle of struggle between past and future. As he always fought for future, the past tried to stop him. But he always convinced his colleagues in a true and right way. Qualification is the key to this application. As they were qualified for their tasks, it was easier to achieve the targets.
In present, qualification seems to be ignored in policy. That’s why, the people and the people are suffering. The wars and crisis’ are existing because of this.
We (the nations and all publics) have to choose our leaders very well. If the leaders lead the societies in wrong way, the disasters will come one by one. It will cause a global crisis (I guess it is in present).
I am very proud as a Turk because we have Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

M.K.Ataturk is the leader of national independence war. His habits assisted him to be successful while fighting for freedom. For example, starting from his childhood he chose his friends very carefully. His friendships in his neighborhood were the basic of his team. He knew that every individual was very valuable for the nation. He tried to direct the society and his teams according to the benefits of the homeland. He was very careful while setting a team for every level in the freedom struggle.
After quitting from the Ottoman Army, he kept on fighting with his friends starting from his childhood. During his military high school days, he collected many colleagues. In addition to the military officers, he had many connections from scientific and history area. He gave a great value to the people who did their job very well. That’s why he had a statement: One who loves his homeland the most is the one who does his job very well.
He also gave value to the teachers and education area. He was aware that education is the most important area in order to develop a country.

It is obvious that everyone has various dreams. Leaders are those who are able to follow their targets even though they face difficulties. We have to differ utopia and targets. So, leaders have to think and evaluate the situation and circumstances very well.
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is the leader who is able to think and evaluate the daily situation very well. His solution is to know the obstacles on this path, so he is able to eliminate the obstacles. Then the path can take the person to the target. He is also a realistic officer and stateman. As his aim is to serve the nation he loves and the good for the humanity, his solution compromises realistic elements.
For example, as he commanded Turkish national forces at the battlefield personally, he had a good intelligence about enemy. So, his evaluation was realistic and wise. When the Greek commander was captured, he had a dialogue about the tactics and results. He surprised and asked who he was. When he found out the fact, he realized everything. (The Greek master commander was on Aegean Sea, and he was giving orders from there.)
When he became a stateman, he also used this application to solve the problems. That’s why, his movements were successful and long-lasting.
The world needs this sort of leaders……Don’t forget otherwise a disaster will knock on your door.
