Living history in Black Sea region; Sinop Prison Museum

Although it is known as the home pain and captivity, actually it is a living history. The construction year isn’t known. It has been restored so much that the traces of constrution has been lost in the time.

It is absolute that it was built as a fortress actually. Then the fortress has inverted into other facilities according to the purpose. Finally it was used as a prison then it was converted into a national museum. Restoration and archeaological works are being done at the museum. During these works, some traces from Roman Empire time have been discovered. Some tablets were discovered. They haven’t been decoded yet. When they are decoded, the history of the fortress and Sinop region will be lighted up.
