Old Palace of Ottoman State; Edirne

Before the conquest of Constantinople (today’s Istanbul), the capital of Ottoman State was Edirne. Ottoman state was extended on both continents. There were a Byzantian State between Asia and Europe. In order to be an empire, Constantinople’s conquest was necessary. The capital of Ottoman State was Edirne. There was a huge palace in Edirne. Even tough it is a ruin today, we can realise how magnificent it was.

Until the era of Sultan Mehmed II, the Ottoman sultans resided on this palace. After the conquest of Constantinople, Ottoman state became an empire. Edirne was a gate to Europe (even today it is).
