Şamran Channel; the oldest water channel of the world

Water channels which have been used for various purposes for centuries are one of the most common solutions in order to bring water to city sites. We have one of the oldest water channels of the world in Van province. The most important point is that it is still functional at present. It is around 3000 years old and it is dated back to Urartu period.

Today’s Van province was the site of Urartu civilization. The archeaologist discover new items which develop the history of Urartu Kingdom everyday. Şamran Channel is one of a few samples of water engineering.
