In today’s world, we all observe that most of the politicians (considered as leaders) are looking for power and wealthy. At the same time, they ignore the human rights and values. Actually, this scenario has been applied since 19th century. As a result of this scenario, millions of people died, and the world got into the chaos.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk appeared in that world. He was a soldier, but he didn’t defend war except the homeland security. He was a stateman, but he didn’t seek for wealth. In the opposite way, he thought his nation and benefits of the public. He was a leader, but he didn’t look for power. In the opposite way, he looked for respect and freedom. He had no money, he told his mother to sell the carpet instead of having money from the Turkish senate. Because he knew that that money belonged to the Turkish nation. He never liked the chaos, he always defended peace and democracy in the world. He was a president but he never defended limitless authority. He had limits when he was in charge. He defended the right of a nation to make their own decision. Even though new Turkish cabinet was under war conditions in 1920’s, he always tried to respect everyone in public (even for his enemies) as much as he could do. The most important point is that he had never separated himself from Turkish nation or the humanity. He was always a person who fulfilled his mission for his country and the humanity.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is such a leader that believes in power of education. Education is a frontier in a war against ignorance. It is an endless war. Teachers are the most important soldiers in this war. Ataturk considered teachers as the most important people who shape the generation.

After the declaration of Republic, he planned to organize education system in order to serve the development. Firstly, he wanted to close the gap of teachers. Then he prepared a proper system for the civilized nation. He started ro teach Turkish nation. He became the senior teacher of Turkish nation. The salary of teachers was chosen as basis of salary in the state.

Teachers’ Days are celebrated on 24th of November every year.

While Mustafa Kemal was planning the revolutions for new Turkish Republic, he aimed to reach the civilization. In addition to cultural and political revolutions, Turkish public should have been taken the position of modern world. That’s why Mustafa Kemal examined the clothing of developed countries, and he decided to apply this to modern Turkish Republic İN 1930’s.

Before the republic, Turkish society was wearing old style clothes and old-style hats such as fes and turban. This appearance wasn’t looking good for the civilized world. So, this should have changed. He designed modern clothes and hats for the public. Firstly, he applied this revolution himself (as he always did). Then it took place in society. Hat was a very weird for the society, but it didn’t take long to be orientated. Clothing revolution brought new Turkish Republic to the modern world. Also, the neighbor countries applied the same revolution to their countries such as Iran and Greece. Women and men started to wear modern clothes and hats. It was banned to wear their uniforms without their services for all religious men (Actually it is still valid). All religious clothes and figures were banned in order to secure secularism. (Actually, it is valid, too)

He took everything in account to reach the modern world. His purpose is to protect the public from the social and political pressure. The appearance of the public is so important that it is one of the scales to show the level of the public.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is a leader that encourages and supports the free life individually and politically. His principles can be orientated for a daily life or a nation’s destiny. Actually, public forms nation, individuals form the public. They are also very easy to understand and to apply. Because they are all based on logic and science.

1. A nation or an individual will be independent to make decisions.
2. No Pessimism. Plan your actions and find out what can stop you. Then move on..
3. Benefits of public are more important than everything. Your freedom finishes in a point that others’ freedom starts.
4. You are responsible for your country, so your actions should be planned very well.
5. Timing is everything. You can’t say everything at any time, or you can’t act however you like at any time.
6. Focus on the target, don’t focus on obstacles on your path.
7. Value and respect the people, you have a lot to find out from them.
8. Be open-minded, question about things whatever you hear or you know,
9. Don’t forget to read books on various subjects. Get the true information.
10. Go to the theater, make a painting or deal with music.. briefly live with art.
11. Try to protect your physical power, deal with sport.
12. Work hard and contribute your country’s mark in the world

They are the basic features for a high success. Braveness and smartness can be required but they are great motivations.

A public requires some branches to reach a developed level such as art that can be the most important branch to improve as individually. When an individual improves himself/herself, public will reach the civilized nation very easily. We can describe the art as the way to describe the ideas and characters. So, the public will get a quicker progression socially.

For example, music is one of the powerful instruments to describe the feelings and the human being. Every kind of music can have different rhythms. Other branches such as painting let the artist state himself/herself, too. A beautiful view has a great beauty for the painter and the other people. Theater is based on human being nature. We can see many different human characters on the stage. We can also watch various human being actions in the theaters. Sculpture is one of the great art branches. Artist can create a big figure or a simple figure. It is required to be taught by the teachers due to create a sculpture. Poets and writers are the other artists that will assist the public to improve. Every art branch requires education facilities such as universities and workshops. So many people will have a way to describe himself / herself. That’s what republic is based on.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is a leader that respects the artists. He loves the art including literature. He also states that art is the most important way to state the public. He supports the artists and art. Turkish Republic is based on culture and art. All of the revolutions are aimed the public to be improved. His statement is that;

A nation without art means a nation that lost one of the vital blood vessels.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is such a leader that he can direct his nation in true way. He cared the education of youth in every subject including sport. As he was a soldier, he was a well-disciplined officer. So, he also admired the disciplined people including athletes. Because sport is a branch that requires discipline like military. We all know that he was very careful of honor and agility. When we combine those understanding, our leader Ataturk like the wise, agile and ethic sportspeople.

A public need something to unite in the frame of nationalism such as culture and public’s native language. Mustafa Kemal planned to unite the Turkish public in culture and Turkish language.

There were two sorts of language in Ottoman Empire. The official language, that was used in palace and elite people, was the mixture of Arabic, Persian and Turkish languages. It was very difficult to learn. The other one was the pure Turkish language that was used by public. Also, the masterpieces of Anatolian poems were written in this pure Turkish language. So many people knew them (even today). The first language had created palace literature, it was naturally limited.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk planned to make Turkish language pure. He wanted to get it rid of foreign languages. So, the public will find the original spirit of the culture. Anatolian folk poets have been using pure Turkish language to state traditional emotions for centuries. After republic, the mixed language (Ottoman) was gone. Pure Turkish Language became the official language of new Turkish Republic.

Public’s native language is the power of united nation.

Mustafa Kemal was coming from traditional Muslim family. His mother was a traditional Muslim woman. She wanted him to be a hodja that’s why she sent him to the religious school of the neighborhood. He couldn’t orientate the religious school because of the reactions of the hodja. Then he decided to go to the military school (his real target) with the support of his father.

He stated that his favorite character was Prophet Muhammed. He always tried to apply the true Islam in his entire life. At the same time, he was a modern leader. He realized that Islam was full of nonsenses and useless beliefs. Firstly, he had the Kuran translated in Turkish in order to be understood by everyone. He had Turkish Religious Affairs department founded due to organize the religious education and system in a true way. His purposes were to modernize and apply real Islam. He also knew that religion could be used as weapon in order to control or provócate a nation. So, he wanted to prevent it to happen. Secularism is the key principle for this purpose. Islam has always been different than Arab culture in Anatolia. He relied on the clean spirit of Anatolian society.

Europe had the same sort of crisis in the medieval age. The public was under the pressure of church authority. That’s why the European public got ignorant. All of the Europe ruined because of black plague. Because of the cats’ devil nonsense, all cats were killed, and the rats had spread black plague. Millions of people died. This is an example how radicalism can be dangerous for a nation. They got rid of this pressure after scientific and artistic development. It is valid for every religion.

We all know that every human being is mortal. So, everybody will die in a day. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk stated that: my body will become soil naturally, but Turkish Republic will survive forever. He was aware of this fact and also, he knew that ideas never die. They live forever in the minds and history. It is certain that Ataturk is made of free mind and ideas.

Immortality is the thing that the kings and leader have been looking for centuries. There are significant examples of those characters in the history. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk became immortal with his masterpiece ” Turkish Republic” and “independency”. He passed away on 10th of November 1938 at 09:05. He left his heritage to Turkish youth that he relied on the most. His legacy is free Turkish Republic and independent world.
