The region of Van used to be under the domination of Urartu Empire. Most of the buildings of Urartu Empire have been disappeared or they are under the Lake Van. Drought periods are the times when the level of the lake is going down. Some Urartu buildings and a port came in sight. It is thought that the port is around 2700 years old. It is a good hint of Urartu Empire and the geography of the region. It is the sign of the change of lake surface. The area of the lake used to be smaller around 2000 years old.
Lake Van is one of the worth visiting place of Turkey….

It is absolute that it was built as a fortress actually. Then the fortress has inverted into other facilities according to the purpose. Finally it was used as a prison then it was converted into a national museum. Restoration and archeaological works are being done at the museum. During these works, some traces from Roman Empire time have been discovered. Some tablets were discovered. They haven’t been decoded yet. When they are decoded, the history of the fortress and Sinop region will be lighted up.
