Çanakkale Martyrs Memorial

104 years ago, a war was existed between the greatest navy of Western world and Turks. It was the navy that all greatest warships of England and France were in. We were defending our landscape, we had limited sources. On the other hand, Alliance navy had the updated technology for that period.

All Turkish nation became one fist and defended Dardanelles and we didn’t let the navy sail through Istanbul. It was one of the key struggles of WW1. As a result, Alliance nations couldn’t help Russian Royal Family and a new Russian state was established. It was the first war that Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk) had a big success as a commander in history. He made a preparation for Turkish Independence War.

Although ANZAC soldiers were in British command, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk sent a letter to the mothers to ANZAC soldiers. This is the letter;

Dardanelles (Çanakkale Strait) is the place where time stopped. You can see the remains of Çanakkale war’s spirit everywhere even under the water. Many soldiers died or injured here. This is a true travel in time when you visit Çanakkale.
