I want to introduce you a great monastery of Eastern Black sea region. It was dedicated to Virgin Mary. It is a big religious complex such as Sümela Monastery of Trabzon. Also it was carved into a big rock like Sümela Monastery. It was constructed in Byzantian period.
It had been used for centuries but it got emptied after the public exchange between Greece and Turkey. Then the illegal treasure hunters damaged the monastery in order to search treasure. Finally it was restored and opened for visit. But as the restoration wasn’t made properly, it lost some historical features.
It is in the border of Giresun province in Eastern Blacksea region. It is an important sight seeing place for tourists. It witnessed the wide part of history.
