Antalya region has many ancient sites such as Antiphellos. All of them have outstanding features and stories. Antiphellos is one of the ancient sites that have interesting stories. Here it is;

This site was built in Lycian region and it was constructed across the rocky territory. The word was ” Antiphellos”. It was the member of Lycian Unity. But it printed coins in the name of the city and the unity in 2nd century BC. It also became an important port site in Roman period. It was located across Meis island so it took its name from its location. The structure of the site was so impressive that theater and temple were glorious.

Antiphellos ancient site is the site that shows us the features of ancient era and classical structure.

Tavium is one of the important sites of Central peninsula because it had a very important role due to its location. It was a capital of the land of Trokme region. This is the story;

The tribe Trokme that was member of Galats founded this site in 280 BC. Tavium was the center of trade and a stop point for travelers. Traders were important visitors in that site. Also Hittites and Phrygians settled here. It was a settlement area till 1st century AD. It was the capital of Central peninsula of Galats.

We know that Tavium was a trade center of Central Peninsula and it had been active till 1st century AD.

This is a bridge that is one of the best preserved ones in Turkey. A long time had passed till it was constructed. Also it was called five bridges. This is the story;

Emperor Justinianus had a project to tie up two banks of creek Melas. So the route would be shortened. He had a new bridge designed on creek Melas. On the other hand Emperor desired to show his glory and strength with this masterpiece. It was the tradition to have masterpieces built in order to be immortal forever. So Emperor Justinianus wanted to have some imperial buildings and etc constructed. It was one of them. The bridge had been finished in 560 AD after two years. It was an important route from Constantinople to Small Asia.

It is one of the significant masterpieces that connect the old capital to important East Roman cities.

Urbanization is the fact that can destroy the tracks of history. It is available for every big city. Istanbul is one of the metropolis’ of Turkey. On the other hand it is the region that has been hosting various civilizations of this landscape. So the city has a lot of hints and records on this historical background. It seems that we are losing those tracks.

Rhegione ancient site was often recorded in Byzantine period. So it proves us that it had an important role. This site had important missions. It was on the route of Europe and Thrace. It was the last destination before Constantinople. East Roman Empire used Rhegione as a security point and custom. Also Byzantines were keeping most of the population here in order to control the population in Constantinople. Briefly a trader or a visitor was checked in Rhegione then they were released if the investigation was positive. It is also thought that the important people had summer houses in this site.

Unfortunately the site’s ruins are being vanished because of urbanization. It is an important part of Istanbul’s history.

Satala ancient site is one of the archeological sites of Turkey despite the lack of interest. It is located in border of Gümüşhane county of Turkey ( A junction point between Eastern Black Sea region and inner Anatolia). As the archeological studies weren’t sufficient, we have a few information on this site.

Satala was an important ancient site because it was one of the military bases of Roman Empire that has ever known. It is thought that it was the settlement area that hosted various civilizations such as Hittites, Assyrians and Macedonians. The archeological proofs that are a few right now show us that this site had a lot of things to say.
