As we know that war games were popular in Roman era and gladiators were starring actors of those games. This fact had a reflection in every Roman city. Kibyra site was one of those sites. It was famous for gladiator games ;

Kybra site was constructed as apart of unity named Tetrapolis (union of four cities) between 2nd and 1st century BC. It was constructed on a huge area and its architectural features are marvelous. The various buildings such as theater and Odeion ( Music house) were important buildings of the site. The theater was built like a hippodrome of Constantinople. They were built in a glorious style.

Also bath of Kibyra was one of the impressive buildings of the site. As an administration area, it was a state center of Roman Empire. Mostly we can say that real gladiators were here.

It is located in Mediterranean region of Turkey. This zone of Turkey is considered as the historical zone of Turkey.

As we always mention that East Roman (Byzantine) civilization had a great heritage in this landscape. They were the experts of building good castles. Their castles have never vanished totally. You can see the wall or gate but you can understand that it is a Byzantine castle. The castle of Adliye village is this sort of this castle. ;

As you see above, it is just a wall but you can see the Byzantine construction features. Its construction year isn’t absolute but it is thought that it was built in 13th century AD.

It is in Northern Western region of Turkey. Due to lack of archeological excavations, we don’t have sufficient information on the castle. It is certain that it has many stories for us.

Small Asia or Anatolia, it doesn’t matter. This landscape is full of castles that have different stories in their lifetime. Karacahisar castle is one of them. Its story is in below;

It was constructed in a region named as ” site of castles” in the middle age. It had a strategical importance in that region. Byzantine castles were parts of defense line. Also it is known as the castle which was conquered by Ottomans as firstly.

It is located in Central Anatolia but a ruin remained from that castle. So we don’t have sufficient information on the castle due to lack of archeological excavations.

South Eastern Anatolia is a special region for history. As it is located between Europe and Asia, it has been hosting many civilizations for centuries. Also the religions promulgated from this region. Christianity left us great churches in the region. But unfortunately all of them aren’t lucky to survive till today. Black Priest Church is one of them;

It is estimated that it was built around 2nd century BC. After Artuqid civilization, it was converted into a bath for Artuqid royal family. This building has a place for old technical stories such as antique robots of Artuqid scientists.

Diyarbakır is the main residence area of the region. Also due to the historical background, Diyarbakır has an important place for history of belief.

Early Christians left us a cultural heritage in Anatolia. It is so valuable that they also give hints about Christian history of the world. We are going to visit a place such a basilica;

This is called one-thousand-one churches but the most important building is basilica number 1. It was built around 500 AD. It has a traditional Christian architecture. It was damaged after Arabic attacks to Small Asia so it was reconstructed.

It is located in Karaman province of Turkey. This region was the home of Early Christians. They created a civilization here and Christianity was promulgated from here.

It is one of the unlucky monuments of Southern Anatolia. Despite of its huge size, the castle remained as a ruin today. As the archeological works hasn’t been done, we don’t have sufficient information on the castle. But it is a huge and beautiful castle. It deserves to be interested.

It is thought that it is a Persian castle. Persian king had this castle constructed in the name of his daughter according to some resources. Archeological excavations are required to have more information on the castle.

It is in the border of Bingöl province. A great place to visit…..

Eastern Anatolia has a tough surface. That’s why when you see a building in that surface, you admire the constructors and the building. This castle is one of those buildings. Kemah Castle was built into a natural rocky territory. It is located in Erzincan province;

Its construction year isn’t certain. It is thought that it was constructed in 4.000 BC. There are signs of Hittites, Assyrian and Urartu civilizations. It was built as a defensive castle according to the architectural features.

It is one of the worth visiting sites of Eastern Turkey.
