An ancient site that is nearby Mt. Kerkenez in Yozgat province has a great historical feature. It is thought that it is lost city Pteria. This ancient site had deep impacts on historical age of Small Asia.
It is thought that it was built by Phrygians due to the inscriptions we found. But as other theory, it was built in 600 BC by Meds. It is a site that had 7 km. long walls. It was ruined by Persians in 547 BC. So we couldn’t come across much items in the site. According to some items, it is thought that it was Pteria ancient site. Also very interesting historical events became true in that site; One of them was ” the battle of sun eclipse”. Meds and Lydians had been making war for six years. Eclipse of Sun became true in that day and Thales had an oracle in that way. The day became night. Meds and Lydians thought that Gods got angry with their war. So they decided to sign a treaty. It was on 28th of May 585 BC.
Lydian King Creuz decided to make a military campaign to the other side of Red River (Persians were on the other side). But he wanted to know the results of his campaign so he went to the Oracle center. The fortune tellers told him that a strong empire would go down. So he made his campaign to Pteria. He also invaded Pteria. Lydian King faced Persians there but none of both side won the battle. Lydian King was going back to capital Sartes but he didn’t know that Persians were following them. Persians attacked Lydians nearby Sartes and Lydian empire went down. So oracle became true.
It is located in Yozgat province of Turkey. Some pieces of Pteria are exhibited in Anatolia Civilization Museum of Ankara.

Peristremma was built in that territory. It was a hidden city that was built in a natural canyon. Today we name the region as Ihlara valley.
This place was built during Roman period and Christians were tortured by Roman authority. So they decided to settle in a hidden place. Christians found this natural valley and carved churches & facilities. It was very hard to discover and attack here. So this valley was their home. Here was called as Peristerimma. Due to the climate, Christians had a cooler atmosphere here. The public of Peristerimma built many churches in the region. The environment was decorated as if the nature hid those people.
Today the stairs were built in order to go down the base of the valley. Still you can feel those people who lived here. You may feel as if they are still there. Grape is also an important product of the soil here.

It is certainly known that Roman engineering is very impressive. A path monument of a Roman army is very important because it has a special meaning. It is located in border of Bartın province ( Western Black Sea region). This was a fountain indeed and it was planned to serve for water supply to Roman Armies in Small Asia. They could be able to stop here and supply water for them. It was built in the name of Roman Governor Gaius Julius Agullia between 41-54 AD. There were stairs to climb up the hill. The most outstanding feature is the statement on the monument ” In memory of peace and friendship among states, for the dignity of Emperor Cermanicus”. It is the wish of peace that we are longing for even today.
It is one of the worth seeing monuments of Romans in this landscape.
