Sven Stefan Bulgarian Church; The iron church
As we know that Istanbul has been a cosmopolitan city for hundred years. That multi- cultural feature shows itself with great pieces. Iron church is one of them. It is located on the bank of Golden Horn. It belonged to Bulgarian society of the city. As they declared themselves as an independent country, they also decided to seperate from the Greek Orthodox unity. They didn’t seperate from Orthodox doctrine. They desired to build their own church.
This event became true in 19th century. The church was built from the wood. So it was burned. Then the society had the chuch built by the steel skeleton. It was a great technic for that age. The church was built in Vienna and the pieces were brought to Istanbul by ships. It was completed in 1898. It is still active and standing.
