As we all know, Ankara is the capital of modern Turkish Republic. It is obvious that Ankara was also very important in ancient era. Castle of the city is the symbol of Ankara’s historical background. Also Ankara has an important role on independent war of Turkish Republic.

Its construction year isn’t absolute but it is certain that that castle was there in 2nd century BC. It was used in Roman and Byzantine period. There had been many reconstructions in the periods. Turkish domination had also used this castle. The castle walls were long through Augustus temple in the city.

Ankara castle also served as the first museum of Turkish Republic. Region around Ankara had a wealthy historical background so Ankara is one of the worth visiting places of Turkey.

Romans and Byzantines were very careful about the protection of the capital. So they built port sites and military bases on Black sea coasts.

The archeological items show us that there used to be a port site around Kerpe (on the north). It is the sign of the important site for ancient era. A castle used to be there in order to protect the port. Archeologists think that it was built in Byzantine period.

The archeological items are massed up so an archeological work is necessary in the field.

Black Sea region has a historical background. There is an island on the coast of Black Sea. It is called Kefken Island which is only one that has settlement on the ground.

There are historical remains from Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods. It could be an important military base. Due to the closeness to Constantinople, it could be an important site.

Due to the lack of archeological work, we have insufficient information on the site. Also it is used as coast guards base.
